  1. Step 1

Find out if the recipient has a favorite sports team. Call local sports stores or the team's franchise representatives to locate hats with that particular team logo.

  2. Step 2

Consider designing a custom logo for the hat. Many specialty print or premium item shops will help you design a personalized logo that can be embroidered or ironed onto the front of the hat.

  3. Step 3

Decide on a color scheme based on the recipient's preferred hues. Black caps with simple logos are perfect for the elegant female, while loud colors and enlarged sports logos fit college sports fans to a tee.

  4. Step 4

Choose between the long-billed and short-billed cap styles. As a very general rule, women tend to prefer shorter bills, while men are more likely to wear hats with longer bills.

  5. Step 5

Check the washability of the fabric. The cap should be washable and nonshrinkable.

  6. Step 6

Choose an adjustable hat unless you know the exact size of the gift recipient's head.

Tips & Warnings
  • Fill the cap with favorite candies, baseball cards or tickets to a local game.

on 11/22/2005 You can throw it in the dirt and stomp on it, a la Abercrombie and Fitch. Sometimes I let my dog chew on my hats before I give them away.
