How to Purchase Local Honey

Bees work hard for the honey: They may travel as far as 55,000 miles and visit more than 2 million flowers to gather enough nectar to make just a pound of honey. Honey's flavor comes from the source (thyme, heather, clover, eucalyptus or sunflower, to name a few), not the bee. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Check out BackYardBeekeepers.com and other sites. Beekeepers are the best source for locally produced honey. If they don't sell honey themselves, they'll know where to find it.

    • 2

Shop the farmers' markets and state fairs to find various local varieties of the sweet nectar.

    • 3

Browse the shelves of gourmet food shops to find a wide variety of honey flavors, colors and textures.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your honey crystallizes, place the opened jar in a pan of hot water over low heat for 15 minutes. Stir to dissolve the sugar granules.
