A supporting block is executed when the blocking arm is supported by the opposite arm during a blocking technique. Performed correctly, a supporting block (morote-uke) augments the strength of the block.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos

Step1
Face forward with one leg ahead of the other. Keep your legs shoulder width apart.
Step2
Form your forward hand into a fist.
Step3
Reach behind you with both arms, your forward arm across your body and your back arm behind. Both palms will face down.
Step4
Move both arms forward at the same time to block.
Step5
Sweep your front arm out from your body across the middle so that it stops over your front leg, your elbow cocked at a 90-degree angle, palm facing inward at eye level.
Step6
Swing your back arm across the front of the body, the palm resting against the side of the forward arm to add "support" to the blocking arm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place the elbow of the blocking arm about a fist's distance away from your body, and keep it at a 90-degree angle.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
