Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  1. Step 1

Face forward with your legs spread shoulder-width apart.

  2. Step 2

Raise your non-blocking arm against your side at a 90-degree angle, your hand formed into an upturned fist at waist level.

  3. Step 3

Extend and hold your fingers together tightly on your blocking hand with your thumb tucked into your palm.

  4. Step 4

Reach your blocking arm across your body, your palm almost cupping your ear.

  5. Step 5

Block with an upward, vertical circle, the forearm rotating outward as it crosses in front of the face.

  6. Step 6

Circle the arm downward until the blocking elbow is one fist-width away from the lower ribs, knuckles even with the shoulder and the arm bent at a 90-degree angle in front of you.

Tips & Warnings
  • The blocking surface changes from the inside, thumb-side edge of the forearm to the outside edge of the forearm as the forearm rotates across the face.
  • As you block, the arm makes an upward circle as the forearm rotates outward.
  • Keep your fingers together and with your thumb tucked into your palm. This strengthens your striking surface while protecting your hand from injury.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
