Do you want to know how to block a punch or kick to the middle of your body? A middle-inner block will leave you ready to counterattack.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  1. Step 1

Face forward, and turn your body to the side, one leg ahead of the other (back stance).

  2. Step 2

    Form your hands into fists.

  3. Step 3

Reach behind with your front arm, twisting at the waist. The elbow will be cocked at a 90-degree angle, the palm facing outward.

  4. Step 4

Move the other arm forward across the middle (parallel to the floor) as you pull the blocking arm behind you.

  5. Step 5

Twist your wrist strongly on your back arm, and circle the elbow forward and around to the middle of your body, the top of the fist just below eye level, palm facing you.

  6. Step 6

Move your forward, guarding arm behind you as you twist your other wrist and elbow forward. This will also add power to the block.

  7. Step 7

Pull your nonblocking arm behind you and to your side with your fist palm up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tighten your muscles as the block connects with the attacker's strike.
  • Twist your wrist strongly to add power to the block.
  • Practice timing your blocks with a partner: As your partner strikes at your middle section, time your block to meet the strike.
  • Practice blocks alternating your blocking arm to gain proficiency on either side.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
