Things You'll Need:
- Test sticks
- Electronic test kits
-
Step 1
Buy a box of test sticks. They work by detecting the surge of lutenizing hormone present in your urine, which in turn triggers ovulation within 24 hours. Each box contains five to seven sticks, since it may take several days for the lutenizing hormone to build up to a detectible amount. An average kit runs between $20 and $40 and is good for one cycle, checking once a day. Some popular brands are Answer ($20) and First Response ($30).

Step 2
Try a reusable electronic test kit. Though more expensive, this test has been found to be more sensitive in consumer testing. One kit is the Clear Plan Easy Fertility Monitor. It utilizes disposable test sticks that you place into the unit, which analyzes and stores the data for you. The basic unit itself is just under $200, and refill sticks run $1.50 to $2 each.
