Travel literature can consist of destination guidebooks, travel magazines, books and biographies. When choosing travel literature as a gift, it's often better to be general rather than specific in your choice of destinations covered.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ribbons
  • Foreign Language Phrase Books
  • Gift Cards
  • Maps
  • Travel Guides
  • Book Lights
  • Travel Magazine Subscriptions
  • Gift Certificates
  • Maps
  1. Step 1

Choose a subscription to a travel magazine for armchair travelers or would-be adventurers looking for a destination.

  2. Step 2

Tailor you choice of books to the recipient's particular interest: adventure travel, birding, camping, climbing, riding trains, art collecting and so on.

  3. Step 3

Choose a book on a specific destination if you know a trip is being planned for that destination. Buy the newest edition of a guidebook from a popular travel series, or buy a coffee table book on the country to be visited.

  4. Step 4

Consider a restaurant guide, museum guide, bed and breakfast guide or shopping guide to the area.

  5. Step 5

Choose a cookbook that reflects the cuisine of a specific country or a book on the history of art or architecture of the country.

  6. Step 6

Buy a dictionary of the language spoken in the destination country.

  7. Step 7

Buy a small book lamp so that everything can be read on the road, day or night.

  8. Step 8

Give a gift certificate to a travel bookstore, and let the recipient choose his or her own books, maps and accessories.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always check the publication dates on travel guides. Outdated guidebooks are often still available, but are of little use to today's traveler. The same goes for maps.
