These days, money belts are designed to hold much more than money. To provide the traveler with even more security, some accommodate airline tickets, credit cards, passports or even small pieces of jewelry.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide what will most likely be carried in the money belt: only money, traveler's checks, passports, airline tickets and/or other items that require a bit more space or individual compartments.

  2. Step 2

Buy a money belt that is adjustable and will fit a person of any size.

  3. Step 3

Make sure that the compartments are secured with zippers or other fasteners that won't open accidentally.

  4. Step 4

Choose a belt that is washable.

  5. Step 5

Make sure the belt is lightweight and made of a comfortable fabric.

  6. Step 6

Choose a light color so the belt won't show through light-colored clothing.

  7. Step 7

Consider enclosing some cash, or a gift certificate to a travel store, in one of the belt's compartments. The belt itself will only cost around $10.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are other ways to carry items securely on your body, including packets that go around the neck or attach to a leg. Explore all the possibilities and decide on the most comfortable and efficient device.
  • Some travel experts recommend that you store valuables in more than one place on your body, so consider buying another kind of security device in addition to the money belt.
