How to Remove Grease and Water Stains From Wood

Grease and water stains don't have to doom your furniture to the attic or basement. With a few easy steps, your furniture will look and feel as though nothing spilled on it. Here are some old-fashioned home remedies for fixing these right up.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lint-free Cloths
  • Damp Cloths
  • Furniture Polishes
  • Salt
  • Salt
  • Toothpaste - Non Gel
  • Salt
  • Damp cloths
  • Salt

    Clean Up Grease Spills

  1. Step 1

    Apply salt to the stain immediately.

  2. Step 2

    Allow the salt to sit on the grease stain until grease has been absorbed.

  3. Step 3

    Repeat as necessary until the stain is removed.

  4. Step 4

    Polish the entire area of wood.

  5. Remove Water Marks

  6. Step 1

    Apply a small amount of non-gel toothpaste to a damp, clean, lint-free cloth.

  7. Step 2

    Rub toothpaste over the water spot.

  8. Step 3

    Remove film with a clean, damp cloth.

  9. Step 4

    Dry with a clean, dry cloth.

  10. Step 5

    Polish.

Tips & Warnings
  • An occasional polishing will help to prevent grease from staining in the first place.

on 9/29/2008 Yikes.. I didn't hold out much hope for the toothpaste solution, but I used A&H baking soda w/ peroxide toothpaste and this worked like a charm. Thanks..

on 8/15/2008 i used the baking soda and salt paste to remove a white waterring from my table. it worked great witha little rubbing. thanks.
