There's nothing sweet about candy that gets stuck in your carpeting. Tackle the crisis with this easy homespun solution.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Pull out as much candy as you can with your fingers or scrape it up with a flat-edged, non-serrated knife.
Step2
Apply a small amount of mild liquid detergent directly to the stain.
Step3
Blot with a dry, white cloth.
Step4
Flood the stain with white vinegar.
Step5
Blot again with the cloth.
Step6
Apply a little more liquid detergent to the stain.
Step7
Blot with the cloth.
Step8
Flood the area with water.
Step9
Blot one last time until the carpet is dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test the cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous part of the carpet before using them on a large area.
  • Always use a white cloth rather than a colored one to prevent any dyes from coming off on the carpet.
  • As you blot, keep turning the cloth so that you are using a clean, dry section to pick up the stain and cleaning fluids from the carpet. Don't rub.
  • If using a brush to help clean the stain, always brush from the outer edges of the spill inward to prevent the stain from spreading.
