How to Perform a Single Forearm Block in Tae Kwon Do

A single forearm block will ward off a punch or kick aimed toward your middle, while setting you up for a counterattack.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  1. Step 1

    Face forward, and turn your body to the side, one leg ahead of the other.

  2. Step 2

    Form both hands into fists.

  3. Step 3

    Pull your forward arm back near the opposite shoulder, palm facing up.

  4. Step 4

    Sweep the forward arm out, pulling your opposite arm back behind you.

  5. Step 5

    Twist your wrist so that the palm faces away as the forearm blocks in line with the forward knee.

Tips & Warnings
  • As you sweep your blocking arm across your body, keep your elbow cocked at a 90-degree angle.
  • Make sure you use the fleshy part of your forearm as the blocking surface.

on 11/29/2007 Good! You should also mention small amount of pain involved in blocking. Also that this block sets up numerous counter strikes.

on 9/26/2007 u can also use your fist, the fleshy pinky side. it will hurt and slow ur opponnent's feet down. u have to make sure it collides full speed, head on for maximum effect
