Would you know how to block a punch or a kick to the middle? A double knife-hand block will ward off the attack while setting you up for a counterattack.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Martial Arts Supplies
  • Martial Arts Uniforms
  • Martial Arts Videos
  1. Step 1

Face forward and turn your body to the side, one leg ahead of the other.

  2. Step 2

Form both hands into knife-hand position (hands open, fingers closed and thumbs tucked into the palms).

  3. Step 3

Reach straight back behind your body with both hands. The forward hand will cross your chest, palm up. Your back hand will extend back, elbow straight, palm facing down.

  4. Step 4

Sweep both arms quickly toward the front (middle).

  5. Step 5

Twist your forward wrist at the end so that the palm faces out. Be sure your elbow is cocked at a 90-degree angle, about a fist-length away from your side and aligned with your forward leg.

  6. Step 6

Twist your back wrist as it sweeps across your midsection as a guard. The palm will face up in front of your solar plexus.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to reach back far enough with both hands. Giving yourself more distance will result in greater power as you sweep for the block.
  • Keep the top of your block level with your eyes so that your vision is not restricted.
  • Practicing martial arts is physically demanding. Consult your physician for advice on whether you should pursue martial arts.

on 8/8/2006 Stand in the normal stance, step forward, then kick your back leg forward at head height very fast.
