A Furby is a furry little interactive toy that sleeps, dances, burps, whines and does many other things in reaction to light, sound and movement. Each Furby comes pre-programmed with both an English and "Furbish" vocabulary. Your Furby's vocabulary will expand the more you interact with it, and its range of actions will grow as well.

  1. Step 1

Search Internet sites that feature Furby, and visit online and local toy stores to get an idea of the available Furby figures and merchandise. Online auction sites are also a great place to find anything "Furbish."

  2. Step 2

Find out which Furby creatures and merchandise the child or adult on your gift list already has and still wants. Is he or she looking for a Furby in a certain color? If the gift recipient collects Beanie Babies, then buy one or more Furby Buddies to add to the collection.

  3. Step 3

Try not to worry about purchasing a Furby that your gift recipient may already have. The interactive nature of Furby means a different "personality" for every doll ' even if they look alike!

  4. Step 4

Consider the age of the child when choosing a Furby and related merchandise. A small child may enjoy a Furby Baby or a Furby Talking Cup and Plate Set. How about a Special Edition Graduation Furby or a Furby CD-ROM game for an older child or adult? Original Furbies are appropriate for any age.

  5. Step 5

Note that you may get a Furby that speaks languages other than English and Furbish - specifically, French, Spanish, German or Japanese and, of course, Furbish.

  6. Step 6

Expect to pay anywhere from a few dollars to about $100 for Furby dolls and merchandise. Furby Buddies start at $6 and original Furbies start at $30. Some special edition and retired Furbies can cost much more and may be difficult to find.

  7. Step 7

Check on the estimated delivery time before you order your Furby dolls and merchandise online or through a catalog.

  8. Step 8

Purchase your Furby merchandise from a local toy store. You may not get the selection you would get on the Internet or through a catalog, but you will be able to receive your Furby dolls immediately.

  9. Step 9

Buy your Furbies early! Furbies are extremely popular toys and you want to be able to get yours before they're all gone! Check with local toy stores to find out when their next Furby shipment is expected. You may be able to reserve one.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spend time on Furby-related Web sites. Tricks and tips on how to make your Furby perform certain actions can be found there. These sites will come in handy in case you are unable to get your Furby to go to sleep!
  • Know that Furbies do not yet come with accessories such as clothes or hats. If you want to dress your Furby, measure him and check to see if there are lines of doll clothing that will fit. Internet sites and doll clothing pattern books show how to measure and make your own doll clothes.
