RTR, which stands for "ready to run," is a slot car that can race right out of the box.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Slot Car Kit
  • Slot Car Guide Braids

Step1
Head to a local hobby shop or slot car raceway.
Step2
Ask the clerk to show you RTR cars in the scale you intend to race: 1/24, 1/32 or HO.
Step3
Choose a car that looks interesting to you. Most RTR cars perform about the same, so it's mostly an aesthetic choice.
Step4
Make sure to get some spare guide braids if you intend to race.
Step5
Pay for your car; most cost between $20 and $40.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you just want to race for the day, many tracks will rent you an RTR car.
  • Make sure the scale of your car matches the scale of the track where you'll be racing. 1/24 is the most common for track racing.
