Choose a color scheme, such as all white, blue and gold, or red and pink. You may want to take a look at the ornaments you have before you choose, to see if one or two colors predominate.

Remember that anything is fair game. For a red-and-pink tree, you might start with all your red ornaments and then add the decorations left over from last year's Valentine's Day party. For a "blue Christmas," start with blue lights and your blue ornaments and then add strings of blue beads (and don't forget to put Elvis on the stereo!). If you're a football fan, choose your team colors - and put the helmet at the top.

Tips & Warnings
Scale your decorations to the size of your tree. If you're decorating a very large or very tall tree, you can use bigger items.
Generally, larger decorations look nicer toward the bottom of the tree, with the tiniest fitting better in proportion to the narrow top of the tree.
