      • 1

Buy a tree and set it up.

      • 2

Put lights on it. Small white lights are perfect for a glamour tree.

Collect the materials you'll need: Strings of pearls and feather boas are a good start. Don't forget broken jewelry, old mascara wands and lipstick tubes, and some silk ribbon to tie everything on. For these, church jumble or rummage sales and flea markets are perfect sources.

Start with the biggest items - the pearls and the boas. Then move on to medium and smaller items, arranging as you go. Some items - clip-on earrings, for example - will practically attach themselves. Use the silk ribbon to tie the rest of the items to the ends of branches.

Don't forget the rhinestone tiara for the top.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Scale your decorations to the size of your tree. If you're decorating a very large or very tall tree, you can use bigger items - even shoes and lacy bras.

Of course, we all know that the ultimate in glam is Marilyn Monroe. So, I added little Marilyn ornaments and then, for the tree topper, a pair of white pumps. It looks wonderful with the white boa!

Instead of using garlands, try glitzy long lengths of fabrics. Buy at least 3 yards so that you'll have 9' long pieces. I cut the fabic into thirds or fourths, depending on the width. Silver or gold lame work well, as well as tule. Metallic brocades are gorgeous but a bit more pricy. Let your imagination go wild!
