How to Make Brown-Bag Decorations
Recycle by using materials around the house to make cute, country decorations. They also make great name tags for your gifts.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic Grocery Bags
- Aleene's Tacky Glue
- Batting
- Glue Guns
- Holiday Fabrics
- Hot Glue Sticks
- Paper-backed Fusible Webbing
- Pinking Shears
- Scrap Fabrics
- Soda Can Tabs
- Scissors
- Pencils
- Felt-tip Pens
- Paper Grocery Bags

Choose cookie cutter designs you wish to use.

Cut paper bags into 10-inch squares. You will need two squares for each design.

Place two paper squares together and trace cookie cutter design on top square.

Use a felt-tip marker to make stitch marks around design edge to give it a stitched look.

Cut around shape leaving a 1/2-inch allowance.

Glue edges of brown bag together leaving a small opening at bottom of design.

Fill with batting or pieces of plastic grocery bags.

Glue opening shut.

Add embellishments - hair, beard for Santa, eyes, beads, buttons, glitter, ribbon for candy canes.

Glue soda can tabs to back of ornament. Slip on an ornament hook to hang on tree.

Tips & Warnings
To decorate with fabric scraps: in step 3, place fabric with paper squares and cut out the same shape. Iron fusible web to fabric, iron fabric cutout to one piece of paper bag cutout, then follow the rest of the steps.
Trace your child's hand or baby's foot and give to grandparents to hang on their tree.
These ornaments make great swags.
