    Prepare the Pieces

  1. Step 1

Make 1 gold or silver yo-yo for the Christmas tree's star.

  2. Step 2

Make 27 green or green-print yo-yos for the tree body.

  3. Step 3

Make 2 brown yo-yos for the tree trunk.

  4. Step 4

Make 7 bright, multicolored yo-yos for gifts.

  5. Assemble the Tree

  6. Step 1

Place the gold or silver yo-yo in the middle, 4 inches down from the neck band of the sweatshirt.

  7. Step 2

Sew three green yo-yos under the star, followed by two rows of five, then two rows of seven.

  8. Step 3

Attach two rows of one brown.

  9. Step 4

Place the multicolored yo-yos around the base of the trunk.

  10. Step 5

Stitch the yo-yos in place with the "hole" side down. Hold the yo-yo in place; take the needle through the inside of the sweatshirt, into the top of the lip of the yo-yo hole, then back through the shirt. Do this three or four times and tie off.

  11. Step 6

Repeat for the bottom of the lip.

Tips & Warnings
  • Decorate the tree with rickrack, beads, small charms or ornaments.
  • To attach charms or ornaments, place a small safety pin on the inside of the sweatshirt, tie the ribbon to the charm, and then to the safety pin. This way, you can remove the charms or ornaments when you wash the shirt.
  • If you wish to attach the yo-yos "hole" side up, place a button in the middle of each yo-yo.
