How to Make a Holiday Checkbook Cover

You can make a different cover for every holiday or make several and give them as gifts. This pattern uses a 6 1/4-by-7-inch checkbook cover. If you use scrap material and the extra cover that the bank sometimes sends with your checks, the cost is only pennies per cover.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of fabric 7 3/4 inches by 13 inches for the cover.

  2. Step 2

Fold over 1/4 inch and use a zigzag stitch around the cover for a hem.

  3. Step 3

Lay the material right side up.

  4. Step 4

Fold over 2 3/4 inches on each long end with right sides together. The fabric should now be the size of your cover.

  5. Step 5

Pin and sew a 1/2-inch seam only on the folded section of each side. Do this on both ends of the cover.

  6. Step 6

Turn the fabric right side out and you should have little pockets on each end to slip the checkbook cover into.

Tips & Warnings
  • When turning over the ends to make the pockets, measure to make sure the fabric will fit over your cover before sewing.
  • To make a "puffy" cover, lay the checkbook cover on batting and cut a piece 1/8 inch smaller than the cover. Glue it to the cover before you slip the fabric cover over.
