Things You'll Need:
- Chicken Wire
- Sheet Metal
- Garden Hoses
- Plastic Sheets
- Plastic Sheets
- Common Nails
- Hammers

Step 1
Squirt woodpeckers with water from a hose or a high-powered water pistol.

Step 2
Bang on the inside wall opposite of where the woodpeckers are drilling.

Step 3
Nail metal or plastic sheeting over the area where the woodpeckers are drilling.

Step 4
Use chicken wire or wire mesh over pecked areas, attaching it 1 to 2 inches from the side of the house. Woodpeckers won't have access to the wood.

on 10/8/2009 I just bought flashy tin strip tape. I will attach them to the eves where they are pecking and hope the little peckers stay away.

on 4/30/2008 A bird expert told my mom that woodpeckers are afraid of owls. He suggested she purchase a large plastic owl from a hardware store and place it on her stoop near the spot where the woodpecker had been drilling. She did, and hasn't seen or heard one since!

All species of woodpeckers are protected by federal law. Shooting, trapping or otherwise harming them is forbidden.
