Make Cinnamon Cookies

Old-fashioned cinnamon cookies are sweet and tasty, and very easy to make. These are often called cinnamon stars, because they're often cut out with a star-shaped cookie cutter. This recipe makes about two dozen cookies.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsps cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 pound unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 1/2 tsps vanilla extract
  • Groceries
  • Cooling Racks
  • Cookie sheets
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Hand Mixers
  • Mixing bowls
  1. Step 1

Mix half the cinnamon with 1/4 cup of the sugar and set aside.

  2. Step 2

Beat the butter until creamy, then add the remaining sugar, beating well, about one minute.

  3. Step 3

Add the egg, vanilla and cream and beat together thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

    Stir in remaining cinnamon.

  5. Step 5

Stir together the flour, salt and baking powder and add to the butter mixture. Stir together well, then chill for 30 minutes.

  6. Step 6

Heat the oven to 350 degrees.

  7. Step 7

Roll the dough into balls and place on cookie sheets about two inches apart.

  8. Step 8

Generously butter the flat bottom of a glass or other flat utensil, like a measuring cup or small pan. Dip it into the cinnamon sugar and flatten the cookie balls a little, about halfway, so some of the cinnamon sugar sticks to the top of the cookie. Don't smush them too flat because they'll spread as they cook.

  9. Step 9

Bake for about 8 minutes, or until the edges just start to turn golden.
