How to Make Tropical Fruit Salsa

The fruity, tropical flavor and aroma of fresh habanero chilies perfectly complement the mango and papaya in this recipe. Serves a small get-together. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 oranges
  • 1/4 tsp. sugars
  • 1 limes
  • 1 papayas
  • 8 sprigs cilantro
  • 1/2 red onions - peeled
  • 1 red bell peppers
  • 1 mangoes
  • 2 lg. orange habanero chilies
  • 1 Mangoes

Instructions

    • 1

      Peel, seed and dice the papaya and mango. Place the fruit in a glass or stainless steel bowl.

    • 2

      Cut the oranges and lime in half and squeeze their juice over the fruit in the bowl.

      Stem, seed and dice the bell pepper and add to the bowl with the fruit.

    • 4

      Coarsely chop the cilantro and add to the bowl.

    • 5

      Finely mince the red onion and add to the bowl.

    • 6

      Stem, seed and finely mince the habaneros and add to the bowl.

    • 7

      Add the sugar and salt, mix the ingredients well and let rest for 30 minutes. Serve with corn chips or over grilled fish or pork.

Tips & Warnings

  • Working with habaneros can be a very hot business, so wear rubber gloves if you have sensitive skin. If you don't have gloves, be careful not to touch the seeds and veins of the chilies, and wash your hands immediately afterwards. Don't touch your eyes or face when working with chilies.
