How to Turn Off Automatic Corrections in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word 97 and Word 2000 (for PC) and Word 98 (for Macintosh) documents allow you to set parameters for specific automatic corrections to occur as you type. These corrections are automatically turned on when you first start using the program, but you can turn them off if you find them annoying.

    Tips & Warnings

    • The "Replace text as you type" feature allows you to select from a myriad of misspelled words and have Word replace them with the correct spellings. You can also add your own common misspellings to the list. (A trick is to use this feature for typing shortcuts; for example, you could have the program replace "ilu" with "I love you.")
