How to Turn Off Automatic Spell Checking in Microsoft Word

You can turn off automatic spell checking (and do away with those annoying little wavy marks) if you want to do all of your spell checking after completing the document. These instructions work for Word 97, 98 and 2000.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Go to the Tools menu.

  2. Step 2

    Select Spelling and Grammar.

  3. Step 3

    Click the Options button.

  4. Step 4

    Deselect the Check Spelling as You Type checkbox.

  5. Step 5

    Select or deselect any of the other choices in this window, according to which features you want to use.
