How to Do Slides on "Need for Speed: Shift"

"Need for Speed: Shift" is a fast-paced racing game released on September 19, 2009. Like previous "Need for Speed" games, "Need for Speed: Shift" features a variety of cars including the 1972 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R, 1995 Mazda RX-7 and 2007 Lamborghini Reventón. As you progress through the game, tracks become increasingly difficult, and your performance and lap times will suffer if you don't learn the new skills required to be successful on them. The slide is a useful technique that allows you to transition through tight turns at the highest speed possible without spinning out or hitting the wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Become very familiar with the track(s) you want to slide on and your car's performance. Each turn and section of the track is different, but if you know what to anticipate, it will be easier to estimate how much speed is needed for a slide.

    • 2

Approach the turn you want to slide on at a moderate speed, approximately 50 to 60 percent of what the vehicle is capable of. Right before you enter the turn, release the accelerator and press the analog stick in the direction of the turn. While in the turn, gently tap the accelerator to maintain speed. You begin to slide.

    • 3

Continue to tap the accelerator while in the turn and move the analog stick as necessary to maintain the slide. If you're going too fast, stop tapping and ease up on the analog stick. If you're going to slow, accelerate more and move the analog stick further into the direction of the turn.
