How to Decorate Pens With Flowers for a Wedding

Add a festive touch to your reception's decorations.

Flower pens not only make lovely wedding favors, they can also be thrifty table decorations. Adorn each table at your reception with a pot of flower pens, or tie each stem to your guests' place cards. You can also set these floral-inspired writing utensils next to your wedding guest book so that it can be signed with a festive flourish. However you decide to use them, these crafty favors are sure to be an appreciated addition to your wedding decor.

Things You'll Need

• Silk flowers
• Scissors
• Ballpoint pen
• Floral tape

Instructions

1. Cut the silk flower's stem to 2 inches in length. When placed at the top of the pen, the flower's stem should not be long enough to reach the writer's hand, as a bulge of this kind can often cause discomfort if she is writing for a long time.

2. Wrap the stem with floral tape. Though floral tape itself is not sticky, it will stick to itself when stretched. When wrapping the stem, be sure to pull the length slightly to allow the tape to adhere.

3. Place the wrapped flower stem flush against the top of the ballpoint pen. The base of the flower should be level with the top of the pen so that it appears to be blossoming out of the barrel.

4. Remove the pen's cap and wrap the floral tape around the pen and flower together, beginning at the flower's base and working your way down the barrel. You can either wrap the pen all the way to the tip or wrap it until the point where the cap's top lies. Remember that the cap will no longer fit if you wrap the floral tape down the entire length of the pen. If you want the cap to remain functional, however, wrap the pen's cap separately, as this will give the flower's stem a seamless finish when the cap is replaced.
