How to Make a Hermione Yule Ball Gown

Magical meets practical in this do-it-yourself ball gown.

Looking to cast a spell on that special guy at your next dance, ball or costume party? Take a tip from Harry Potter heroine Hermione Granger, who enchanted Quidditch star Victor Krum and best pal Ron Weasley with her pink-fading-to-purple floor-length gown.

Things You'll Need

• Pink silk sleeveless tank top
• 2 pieces of sheer pink chiffon, 3 to 4 inches
• Floor-length ruffled skirt (fades from pink to purple if possible)
• Pair flat pink slippers
• Dark pink silk ribbon long enough to tie in a bow around your waist

Instructions

1. Adorn a plain, pale pink, silk tank top to create the top of the dress. Sew one piece of sheer, pink chiffon fabric to each shoulder to create flowy, flyaway sleeves. These pieces should only be 3 to 4 inches long to create short wisps that cover your shoulders.

2. Combine your pink top, now with chiffon sleeves, with a floor-length layered skirt. This skirt should also be silk or chiffon fabric and fade from a pale pink to deep purple. The skirt should be light and billowy but also keep a straight-line silhouette.

3. Tie a dark pink silk ribbon around your waist where the skirt and top meet. The bow should be tied in the front of the dress with long strands of ribbon hanging down from the loops.

4. Accessorize your bewitching ball gown with flat pink slippers and sparkling stud or drop earrings.
