How to Get Rid of the Fragrance Smell in Hair Conditioners

Getting rid of the fragrance will leave you with well-conditioned hair that isn't overpowering.

Conditioner is meant to repair damaged hair, but uses strongly scented oils made from objects such as coconuts and fruits that you may find difficult to tolerate. These oils can cling to your hair for days and the longer you use the same conditioner, the more likely your hair will retain the scent. If you can't stand the smell of your conditioner clinging to your hair all day, you have several options for getting rid of the fragrance.

1. Condition your hair with an odorless product. Several companies manufacture haircare products that do not have a strong scent. These conditioners often cost a little bit of extra money, but should leave your hair clean and fragrance-free.

2. Use less conditioner. Many people squirt the container liberally and smother their hair in conditioner. Instead, put one or two small drops of conditioner and massage it into your scalp. This will help decrease the fragrance.

3. Rinse your hair thoroughly. After leaving the conditioner in your hair for the amount of time specified on the container, rinse your hair thoroughly to remove the majority of the oil, which causes the fragrance.

4. Dry your hair with a fresh towel. The fragrance of the conditioner is more likely to linger if you do not dry your hair, and older towels are more likely to be saturated in the smell of the conditioner. Try to change towels as often as possible.

5. Spray a hair perfume on your head. Many companies make products designed to cover the smell of your hair. If the fragrance in your hair conditioner is still bothering you, try covering it up with one of these products.
