DIY LED Enclosures

Light-emitting diodes are inexpensive, energy efficient and small, and they emit very little heat. As a result, do-it-yourself hobbyists have found creative ways to use LEDS in their projects. One such project is a small array of LEDs placed inside an acrylic enclosure, diffusing the light from the individual bulbs. Enclosed LED lights give off a high-tech yet soothing effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Organize your LEDs in the general shape you want the array to take. While doing so, heat up your soldering iron.

    • 2

Cut a length of wire to reach from the negative terminal on the battery. Strip enough insulation from the battery end of this wire to wrap or solder around the post.

    • 3

Solder the other end of the negative battery terminal wire negative leg of the first LED in the signal chain.

    • 4

Cut and strip primary wire sections long enough to jump from the positive leg of the first LED to the negative of the second. Continue soldering one leg to the next until the loop reaches back around to the battery.

    • 5

Insulate the electrical connections with electrical tape. Slide the assembly into the acrylic box.
