Learn how to make a charm bracelet with a toggle clasp.

Make your own chunky, stylish chain or charm bracelet with a toggle clasp, which you can decorate along with the rest of your bracelet. Toggle clasps are secured when you slip the bar end of the clasp through the hoop end. They are appropriate for bracelets that are somewhat heavy, such as a thick metal chain. Follow a specific procedure and use the correct jewelry components to attach the two ends of the toggle clasp to the necklace and add your own charms.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around your wrist and subtract 1 inch from this length. Measure and cut a piece of 1/8-inch-thick jewelry chain to this length with a pair of heavy-duty wire cutters.

    • 2

Open two metal jump rings in the same color as the chain you just cut. Grip either side of the openings with pliers and pull the ends to either side to separate them. Slip the open end of each jump ring though the last link on either side of the chain.

    • 3

Feed the ends of each jump ring through the loops at the bottoms of either end of a toggle clasp. Attach the bar end to one jump ring and the hoop end to the jump ring on the other end of the chain. Grip the open ends of the jump ring attached to the bar of the toggle clasp and bring them back together.

    • 4

Slip the loop at the top of a charm onto the end of the jump ring that is still open. Close the jump ring by bending the open ends together again. Add more charms to the chain links of the bracelet if you want, and make sure that they are evenly spaced.
