How to Make a Tiny Basket Made of Paper
Tiny paper baskets are easy to construct by both adults and children. These little baskets are handy decorations or for holding gifts. You can use them to hold candy, mints or potpourri. Make the baskets to your individual taste and style by choosing the best paper and colors for the job. Adults can assist small children with cutting and making holes in the paper.

1
Measure and sketch on a piece of stiff paper a square that is three times as long as the desired base. For example, draw a 6-inch square if you want a 2-inch base. Cut out the square and divide it into thirds horizontally and vertically using a pencil and ruler so you have nine squares inside the paper. Trim the corners of the square so they are slightly rounded.
-
2
Cut a handle that is one-third longer than the length of your square. For a 6-inch square you will have an 8-inch handle. Make the handle about 1/2 inch wide.

3
Position your paper so it is squarely in front of you and keep it in the same position for the remaining instructions.

4
Cut along the two top vertical lines one-third of the way into the squares. These two cuts look like vertical slits and do not sever any of the paper. Repeat on the bottom half with the vertical cuts going up the two bottom lines but not severing the paper. The middle, horizontal third of the paper remains intact without any cuts.

5
Fold the top three sections in on themselves so they start to form a cup. Ensure that the middle flap is on the inside of the basket and the two corner flaps overlap on the outside. Select a spot in the upper top of the middle flap for the paper fastener to go.
-
6
Use a wide needle to poke through all three layers when they are lined up. Feed the paper fastener through all three layers on this side of the basket and close it. Repeat on the other side.

7
Decorate the basket as desired.
