How to Make a Rope for Dogs
Rope toys are an inexpensive way to play fetch or tug-of-war with your favorite pooch. Chewing on the rough surface of the rope will also massage a dog's gums and remove excess tartar, which translates into a healthier mouth. Instead of wasting money on store-bought toys, create your own rope that features another perennial favorite of many dogs, a tennis ball. A rope toy can be created at home without any special tools or expertise.
Things You'll Need
- 3 tennis balls
- Vise grip
- Drill or sharp knife
- 12-inch piece of sturdy rope
Instructions

1
Secure a single, clean tennis ball with a vise grip. Use a drill or sharp knife to cut a hole all the way through the tennis ball.
-
2
Repeat the process of securing and drilling a hole through the center of two additional tennis balls.
-
-
3
Thread a 12-inch piece of sturdy rope through each tennis ball. Do not use cheaply constructed rope, as it will fray and be destroyed by the rambunctious dog.
-
4
Tie a knot at each end of the rope.
-
5
Give the rope to your dog to play tug-of-war or toss the ball rope and play fetch.
