How to Keep My Dyson Working

The Dyson brand of vacuums features a bagless chamber to capture the dirt, debris and pet hair lodged in your carpets. The vacuums were invented by James Dyson, who originally attempted to sell his technological advances to Hoover. Today, Dyson vacuums are known for their ability to effectively remove dirt, pet dander and other allergens from carpets with the use of the inventor's "cyclone" technology. Proper cleaning and maintenance will keep your Dyson vacuum running for several years. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Dyson vacuum from the wall to ensure you suffer no electrical shock during any cleaning or maintenance.

    • 2

Empty out the clear bin before the dust and debris reaches the "Max" mark. Press the release catch at the front of the machine and pull the bin forward to remove.

    • 3

Hold the clear bin over a garbage can and press the button at the top of the bin's handle. This will release the bin's bottom, allowing the debris to empty into the garbage.

    • 4

Wipe out the inside of the bin with a damp rag to remove any fine particulates. Set the clear bin aside to dry completely.

    • 5

Remove the pre-motor filter from the Dyson vacuum. The location of the pre-motor filter is dependent upon your particular model and can be found in the owner's manual.

    • 6

Remove the filter from the plastic housing. Clean out the inside of the plastic housing with a damp rag and set it aside to dry.

    • 7

Rinse the blue filter under a cool tap to remove any trapped dirt, dust or pet dander. Set the filter on a piece of paper towel and allow it to dry in a warm spot for at least 12 hours.

    • 8

Reassemble the filter and place it and the clear bin back onto the Dyson vacuum.
