How to Make a Plumbing Compression Joint
Plumbing systems consist of many fittings connected to thousands of feet of pipe. The plumbing fittings are attached to the pipes using solder or with a method called compression. A compression fitting is quicker and easier to install and provides a watertight seal the same as a solder joint. The fitting is attached to the pipe with a nut, which traps a compression ring between it and the fitting. You can make a compression joint with the right parts and a minimal amount of effort. Does this Spark an idea?

Hold the fitting steady with a pair of slip-joint pliers and tighten the compression nut clockwise using an adjustable wrench. Do not over-tighten the nut.
