With some creativity, a plain helmet becomes a celebrated icon for the team.

Youth football is a great way to teach kids teamwork, discipline, how to work toward goals and other life lessons, according to the National Football League. Playing football also promotes physical activity, often lacking among today's young people. Youth football leagues around the U.S. struggle for funding, especially in the current economic slump. One way to save money on team expenses is to design decals and logos yourself rather than hiring graphic designers.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the team's current logos, uniforms, T-shirts and other designs to determine the colors and style most appropriate for the new stickers and decals. Draw a few color sketches for consideration by the coaches and staff.

    • 2

Present your sketches to coaches and staff members. Get them to vote on their favorite design and select the most popular choice.

    • 3

Recreate your chosen sketch on a computer. Use a graphic design program or purchase a sticker software program specifically for creating decals and stickers. Save the file in a printer-friendly format, such as .jpg.

    • 4

Save the design on a thumb drive and take it to a professional printer or upload it to an online printing company. Online companies ship the stickers and decals to you as soon as they are printed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Research old helmet designs for ideas. Measure the locations of the decals and stickers on the helmets to properly size them before printing. Input from current team members and parents is not advised. They are only involved with the team for one to two years under the college level. The more you print at one time, the cheaper your printing costs will be. Order all team printing needs together.

  • Research your designs online to make sure you are not violating any copyrights. Sticker printing paper is available, but these stickers are not resistant to water or sunlight.
