Create a custom bookmark with basic craft materials.

If you enjoy reading, you may not want to damage your books by folding down pages in order to hold your place. One solution is to use a bookmark. Instead of buying a generic bookmark from a card store or bookshop, make the bookmark more meaningful by creating it yourself with a few basic materials. For example, construct a bookmark with white mesh canvas, which can be purchased at any art supply store.

Things You'll Need

  • Card stock paper (white)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Tacky glue
  • Mesh canvas fabric (white)
  • Glitter glue
  • Single hole punch
  • Ribbon (1/4-inch wide)

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a rectangle from card stock to measure 2 inches wide and 8 inches long with scissors. Round off the corners with the scissors.

    • 2

Cover one side of the rectangle with tacky glue and press the glue-covered side onto a sheet of white mesh canvas fabric. Allow the glue to dry for 20 minutes.

    • 3

Cut around the mesh canvas fabric, leaving a 1-inch allowance along both of the long sides.

    • 4

Apply a layer of tacky glue onto the other side of the bookmark and fold the extra mesh canvas fabric over onto the glue. Smooth the mesh flat with your fingers and allow the glue to dry for 20 minutes.

    • 5

Squeeze a tiny dot of glitter glue inside each hole of the mesh fabric. Allow the glitter glue to dry for 30 minutes.

    • 6

Punch out a hole on one of the short ends of the bookmark with a single hole punch. Position the hole 1/2 inch from the edge.

    • 7

Cut a piece of 1/4-inch-wide ribbon with scissors to measure 6 inches long. Tie the ribbon onto the punched-out hole to complete the mesh canvas bookmark.
