When your child enjoys wearing bracelets and jewelry, you can encourage this interest in accessories by showing her how to make homemade snap-on bracelets. Snap-on bracelets can be created using a few basic materials, and can be customize to suit your child's particular style and preferences. Snap-on bracelets can also make whimsical gifts or party favors. You can make handmade snap-on bracelets using materials purchased at any arts and crafts supply store.

Things You'll Need

  • 1-inch-wide woven ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Paint pens
  • Hot glue stick
  • Hot glue gun
  • Decorative beads
  • Snap, female and male ends

Instructions

      Cut a piece of woven ribbon with scissors to 8 inches long.

      Lie the ribbon horizontally onto a flat surface, such as a table or counter top.

      Decorate the top of the ribbon using colorful paint pens. Add on details such as spirals, swirls or dots. Allow the paint to dry for 20 minutes.

      Insert a hot glue stick into a hot glue gun, then plug in the hot glue gun to heat up for 10 minutes.

      Squeeze a small dollop of hot glue onto the ribbon, and press a decorative bead onto the hot glue dollop. Hold the bead in place for 1 minute to let the glue cool. Repeat to add on as many beads as you prefer.

      Place the two sides of the male part of a snap into a snap press, and slide the snap press over one end of the ribbon. Position the snap press 1/2-inch from the end of the ribbon. Press the snap press together until you hear a click, then remove the snap press. The male part of the snap is secured on the end of the ribbon.

      Place the two sides of the female part of a snap into a snap press, and slide the snap press over the other end of the ribbon. Position the snap press 1/2-inch from the end of the ribbon, as before. Press the snap press together until you hear a click, then remove the snap press. The female part of the snap is secured on the end of the ribbon.

  • Keep hot glue out of the reach of children.

  • Hot glue can cause serious burns on skin.
