How to Make Going to the Movies Romantic
Going to see a movie is an activity that many couples experience as a date. While a good movie can make for an entertaining night, most people spend the two hours in the theater getting to know the on-screen characters rather than their date. With so much on-screen drama or excitement, it can be hard to come away from a movie feeling like something romantic just happened. But with some planning and effort, even a movie night can have a touch of romance.

1
Plan something special at the movies. Say 'I love you' on the big screen, clear out the theater for a private showing or propose at the end of a romantic movie. Because movies are so captivating in themselves, there are many opportunities for surprise.

2
See the movie somewhere other than your usual theater. Try a drive-in movie theater with a basket of goodies, plan a day trip around seeing a movie out of town, go to a dinner-and-movie venue, go to an outdoor community viewing or go to an old historic theater. Sometimes changing the venue makes movie-going a whole new experience.

3
Make the movie an 'old fashioned' treat. Revert to traditional dating guidelines where the man pays for his lady and treats his lady like she is queen. Or role-reverse it, everyone can use a night off to relax and let someone else worry about everything. Open the doors, bring flowers, sit where your date wants to, share a milkshake (or soda) for two, ask for a kiss and make sure your date is comfortable.
-
4
Dress-up for the occasion. Even though you're going to be sitting in the dark, you can still dress your best. Make your date wish the lights were on because you are so good to look at tonight. Or wear something sexy so your date's attention is on you, and not on the big screen.
-
5
Pick a movie that will set the tone. Go to a movie you both have been waiting for or one that is very romantic. Better yet, if you are the one always picking the movie, try insisting your date picks it when you get to the ticket counter. Or better yet, make your own movie using pictures, video and software, that express your love or admiration. With some effort in the selection process, the movie itself can be romantic.
-
6
Plan for romance before and after the movie. While the movie may end after a couple of hours, there is no reason why the date has to. Add a romantic dinner or romantic music to your evening. This will allow you to pay attention to the movie while still having a romantic date.
-
7
Make the movie date a surprise. Pick your date up unexpectedly and take her to the movies. A little spontaneity goes a long way. The more unexpected the date is, the more exciting it will be when it happens. So feel free to show up in the middle of something routine, but not overly important, and change your date's plans to include you.
-
8
Bring something you made or bought for your date to the movies. A home-made snack you made would do the trick. Try baking some home-made heart shaped cookies or buying gourmet flavored popcorn, and then sneaking them into the theater for a romantic surprise.
-
9
Be physically romantic. Sit in the back, hold hands and snuggle. Kiss if you like. The back row is there for a reason, so make it a romantic spot.
