1
Purchase felt sheets in the team colors. Use the main team colors as the pennant colors and team accent colors for letters and logos. One felt sheet will make a single 8 1/2-by-11-inch pennant.
-
2
Mark the center on one short end of the felt. Draw two lines from this mark to the opposite corners of the felt sheet to create a triangle.
-
-
3
Cut the triangle with scissors. Save the scraps for embellishments on another pennant of a different color.
-
4
Decide if you will attach the pennant to a dowel or hang it as part of a banner with several other pennants. This will determine the direction you will place your letters, logos and other decorations on the pennant.
-
5
Lay out the letters or numbers you want to use on the pennant. Be sure to allow for a 1/2-inch border along the short triangle side for gluing or stringing the pennants. Iron the letters onto the felt according to directions included with letter appliqués.
-
6
Add additional embellishments to the pennant. Include sports appliqués, team player's names and numbers or cheers. Use iron-on appliqués or glue foam cutouts of sports equipment to the pennant with craft glue.
-
7
Glue the short side of the pennant to a dowel to create a handle. To hang pennants as a decorative banner, staple or glue the short end of each triangle along the length of a ribbon. Determine beforehand how long your ribbon needs to be and make as many pennants as needed to fit the length.

Tips & Warnings
For smaller pennants, fold the felt sheet in half to create an 8-1/2-by-5-1/2-inch double layer. Cut two triangles from each sheet.
If you are using several pennants to spell out a name, use one large letter on each pennant.
As an alternative to iron-on letter appliques, look for pre-pasted vinyl letters in craft stores.
As an alternative to iron-on letters, use a stencil or draw them freehand and then paint with fabric paints.
Embellish the handle, if desired, with paint or streamers in the team colors.
