Stop air from rushing out of an air hole by using a tube clamp or clothespin.

Whether the air hole is in the air filter in your aquarium or your air mattress, it causes problems that need quick solutions. Glue is not a viable option because the force of the air escape the hole doesn't let the glue cure. Using a clamp, you can block the air from coming out of the hole until you come up with a solution. In 1940, Gustaf Reenstierna invented the clothespin. Not only is it used to hang clothes, it applies enough pressure to clamp air holes. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Tube clamp
  • Screwdriver
  • Clothespin

Instructions

  1. Clamping Tubes and Pipes

    • 1

      Insert a tube clamp around the end of the tube. Push the tube clamp until it covers the air hole.

      Turn the screws on top of the tube clamp by hand to tighten the tube clamp around the hole.

      Use a screwdriver to a tighten the screws the rest of the way. The tube clamp will block any air coming out of the hole.

    Clamping Flat Objects

      Pinch the sides of the hole using your index finger and thumb until the air hole is closed.

      Squeeze the ends of a clothespin to open it. Place the edges of the clothespin over the pinched sides of the air hole.

      Release the ends of the clothespin. The edges apply pressure to the air hole and block air from coming out of the hole.
