Instructions

    • 1

Cast on 30 stitches. This will make a scarf approximately 7 inches wide.

    • 2

Knit in garter stitch until the scarf is the desired length. Garter stitch is worked by knitting every stitch on every row. A commonly used rhyme to remember the steps in a knit stitch is "In through the front door, Once around the back, Peek through the window, and off jumps Jack."

    • 3

Bind off all stitches. Knit two stitches, and then pass the first stitch on the right-hand needle over the second stitch. Work one more stitch, and then pass the first stitch on the right-hand needle over the second. Continue knitting one more stitch and passing the last stitch over it until you have bound off all stitches.

    • 4

Cut the yarn and pull through the remaining stitch on the needle.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you are proficient in the knit stitch, add new techniques such as the purl stitch. Combine patterns and build a scarf with the combined patterns, showcasing your various skills.
