How to Add Clickable Links to a YouTube Video

The YouTube video format does not directly support the addition of links inside of a video. However, you can use the annotation feature to add clickable links to a published YouTube video that you've uploaded. The annotation feature does not allow you to link to external websites. Instead, it only allows you to link to pages within the YouTube site. You could use the feature to add clickable links to other YouTube videos, or to your profile page.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit YouTube and sign in to your account. Click on your profile name in the page's right corner, then click on "Videos." Click on "Edit" next to the video you want to add clickable links to.

    • 2

Click on the "Annotations" tab. Click on "Add Annotation."

    • 3

Check the box next to "Link." Type the anchor words for your link in the "Note" box.

    • 4

Type or paste the YouTube link into the URL box. Check the box to "Open in New Window or Tab" unless you want the user's current window to open the link.

    • 5

Choose the start and end time in the "Start" and "End" time boxes. Click on "Publish" to save the changes to your YouTube video.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use an external service (LinkedTube) to add hover links to your video; however, these links will not appear on the YouTube site; they'll only appear when you use the service's custom widget to embed the video.
