How to Make Makeup Last All Day on Oily Skin

Skin tends to be oiliest in the summer months.

Some makeup artists claim that oily skin is preferable to dry skin. After all, dry, cracked skin looks older when layered with makeup, and little can be done in the short-term to remedy the clumps and flakes that appear on and around one's face. Although oily skin can cause makeup to shine, slip and melt away, such issues can be controlled with relative ease, leaving skin appearing supple rather than greasy or oily. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a thin layer of oil-absorbing or mattifying makeup primer onto clean, dry skin. Smooth the product over those areas where foundation and other makeup will be applied.

    • 2

Apply a liquid or powder foundation especially formulated for oily skin. Again, smooth only a thin layer over the face. The lighter and more sheer the makeup, the better. Tinted moisturizer also works well at providing a base for one's makeup without overloading the skin.

    • 3

Use an eyeshadow primer or cream shadow as a base for your eye color. Tap powdered eyeshadow onto the base with a clean brush. Complete the look with waterproof eyeliner and mascara.

    • 4

Dust a powdered blush onto your cheeks. Avoid cream blushes or rouge, as these products tend to grease and slide around or off the skin.

    • 5

Apply a lip primer and long-wear lipstick or lipstain.

    • 6

Blot the skin with blotting paper throughout the day. Avoid adding layers of powder to absorb facial oils, as this will only cause the skin to "cake."

    • 7

Stay cool with the use of a fan or air conditioning in order to prevent excess sweating.

Tips & Warnings

  • After getting out of the shower, wait five to 10 minutes before applying your makeup.

  • Keep skin moisturized throughout the week; the more hydrated your skin, the less need there is for your body to produce the oils that ruin your makeup.
