My SanDisk Has No DCIM Folder: How Do I Format It?

While all SanDisk memory cards, flash drives and MP3 players come preformatted, your SanDisk card or drive may need reformatting if it has no DCIM folder. The DCIM folder stores any pictures that are on the card or drive. Reformatting your SanDisk and recreating the DCIM folder requires the built-in Windows formatting tool.
Step 1
Insert your SanDisk card, flash drive or other device into the computer.
Step 2
Click "Start," and then click the "Computer" icon to view your removable drives.
Step 3
Right-click your SanDisk card, flash drive or other device under "Drives with removable storage" and click "Format."
Step 4
Leave the "Capacity" setting as it is. Click the drop-down box under "File System" and select "FAT32" if your drive has 4GB or more of space. Otherwise, select "FAT" as the "File System" type.
Step 5
Leave the "Allocation unit size" field blank. Type in a name for your SanDisk card, flash drive or other device under the "Volume label" field.
Step 6
Click "Start" to begin formatting your SanDisk card, flash drive or other device. Click "Close" when the system alerts you that the formatting is complete.
Step 7
Click "Start," and then click "Computer." Double-click the SanDisk card, flash drive or other device under "Drives with removable storage."
Step 8
Right-click within the card and select "New Folder." Type in and save the name for the folder as DCIM.
