Log in to a Mac account with a username and password.

Mac computers with multiple users employ individual user accounts. Each operator must log in to his account before gaining access to the computer. The administrator sets up a Mac account for each person who uses the computer, whether employees in a work environment or family members and guests at home. With a separate account, each person controls access to personal files and configured settings including Web browser bookmarks, email, preferences for applications and display options.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the Mac or use the Mac after someone has logged out of her account. The login window appears.

    • 2

Click your name from the list of users in the login window if the Mac has been configured to provide a list of users at login. A photo of each person or a generic silhouette appears next to the person's name.

    • 3

Type your name in the "Name" text box if the login window does not have a list of users from which to choose.

    • 4

Type your password in the "Password" text box.

    • 5

      Click "Log In."

Tips & Warnings

  • Log out when you are finished at the computer to protect your information and settings from the next user.
