How to Weld an Overhead Stick
Welding is a particularly useful means of repairing metals, and stick welding is one of the most basic, inexpensive and easy kinds of welding. However, stick welding also has the potential to be messier than most other kinds of welding, such as metal inert gas and tungsten inert gas welding. To avoid creating a mess while stick welding, prepare your metal adequately before welding, and use proper welding technique.

4
Move your stick welding tool in a side-to-side motion along the surface. Pause, when you are on the sides of your weld, to allow your weld puddle to "catch up" with your welding tool. This helps to prevent overheating of your metal.

5
Pass your welding tool over the surface of your metal once again if you require a deeper level of penetration.
