How to Make a Scarf With a Slide Ring
Make a simple silk scarf and embellish it with a decorative slide ring to hold the accessory in place. The scarf can be customized to the length and width you prefer, finished with gentle rolled edges. Make a long scarf to wear with a simple dressy tank top, or make a shorter scarf to peak out above the top of a suit jacket. After you finish making a few scarves for yourself, share your fashion savvy with friends and family by making a few as Christmas gifts.

1
Lay the silk fabric on your work surface, and draw a 10-inch by 60-inch rectangle with a piece of chalk.
-
2
Cut out the shape, and lay the fabric face-down on your work surface.

-
3
Fold over 1/8 inch along each of the sides of the scarf, and iron on a low setting to crease the folds. Place a piece of cloth over top of the iron, to prevent the silk from becoming damaged by the heat.
-
4
Fold over another 1/8 inch along each side. Iron lightly -- just to keep the fold in place. Try not to crease this folded edge.
-
5
Set the sewing machine to a wide zigzag stitch. Place one corner of the scarf under the needle, with the folded edge facing upward. Sew slowly, all the way around the outer edge of the scarf.
-
6
Fold the scarf in half, and place the fold behind your neck. Insert each end of the scarf into the slide ring; a scarf slide ring has two holes, one for each end. Slide the ring up to the position you would like it to rest.
