How to Remove an Upper Rack in a GE Profile Dishwasher

Your GE Profile dishwasher uses two dish racks just like any other brand. Over time, the upper rack can develop problems that make it difficult to operate. The rollers might seize, the sliding rails may become loose or the rack itself can start to develop rust. When this happens, it is necessary to remove the upper rack to make repairs. Removing an upper rack in a GE Profile dishwasher is slightly more involved than simply sliding the rack out of the unit.

Step 1

Open the dishwasher door. Grab the front of the upper rack with your hand, and fully extend it out as if loading the rack.

Step 2

Find the square tab on the rails on each side of the rack near the end. Press the plastic tab inward with your fingers, and pull the plastic end cap away from the rail. If necessary, slide a small flat-head screwdriver between the tab and inside rail, and pry the tab toward the rack. Do not pry too hard though, as the plastic will break under extreme pressure.

Step 3

Grab the upper rack on each side, and pull the rack out of the rails and away from the dishwasher. Push the rails back into the dishwasher while you are working to prevent accidentally bumping into them.
