How to Troubleshoot Mikuni Snowmobile Carbs
You may not think of a machine like a snowmobile in the same terms, mechanically, as you would an automobile or bike or any other road-going vehicle. But a Mikuni snowmobile can suffer from mechanical problems, particularly in the carburetor, which mixes fuel and air to create combustion and, thus, power. With the correct knowledge it is possible to troubleshoot some of the more common, less technical issues. For more complex issues call a registered dealer or mechanic.

1
Tighten the idle mixture screw in the side of the carburetor block if you find the engine extremely tough to start. This can indicate the engine is producing too rich a ratio of fuel and air leading to the engine. Turning this screw with a flathead screwdriver should remedy the problem.
-
2
Spray carburetor cleaner into the jet of the engine. This can remedy the common problem of debris and other gunk gumming up the engine when it has not been run for a while.

3
Visually inspect the air-intake valve for blockage or any structural weakness. A blockage or a damaged air-intake valve could manifest itself as a coughing, spluttering engine, or even cause the vehicle to cut out entirely. Clean or replace the valve as necessary.

4
Fill up with fuel and add a little carburetor cleaner to clean out any blockages in the tank. This should remedy the issue of sluggish acceleration.
