How to Troubleshoot a Tempstar SP80
Most households use a furnace to produce heat. A common furnace found in households is a Tempstar. The SP80 is about half the size of a refrigerator. Check your thermostat to ensure it is plugged in and that it is set to the desired temperature.

Check that the furnace switch is turned on. The furnace switch is located in a metal box that connects to the furnace. If it is on, an indicator light near the switch will flash.

Locate the drawer beneath the furnace and pull it out to expose the filter box. Make sure the box is clean. If there is dirt and debris caked on the surface of the box, replace it with a new one. Dirt may cause your Tempstar to not function properly. Check your filters every 30 days.

Check the pilot light in the furnace to ensure that it is lit. If it isn't, use a match to light the pilot light near the bottom of the furnace.

Check the exhaust piping where it meets the side of your house. Ensure that the open ends of the piping aren't blocked with debris or snow. If the exhaust is blocked, clean it out.
